What Are Sod Webworms

You never heard that they were coming to town. Not even when they were coming right at your own home. You did not even had a clue that they had found your home and had declared it to be fit to be called their home. That is some kind of visitor that you would not want to have in your home. You did not invite them. And if they do more harm than good, that is even worse.

Your lawn is definitely going to tell you a lot of stories about such. After all, with all the care and the love that you have given it, there are some insects that sure find their way to what you proclaim to be precious to you and then claim that piece of soil to be their very own. And everything that is on or beneath is becomes theirs. That is the way with insects. After all, you just cannot communicate with them. The only thing you will know is that they are already there and they are already wreaking havoc which you certainly do not like. Right now, you are in a daze and you are thinking of what you should exactly do to make sure that they go away as soon as possible.

There are various types of insects. There are those that are harmless to your garden and in fact even help much there. You want them to stay. Now there are those which do not only call your lawn their own but also do a renovation of your lawn so that the grass turns brown instead of green. Now for that kind, shoo them out.

Well, as its name says, they are worms. They are about three quarters of an inch in length. They can come in the shades of gray, brown, beige, or even green. And you would know that they are sod webworms because if you take a look at its stomach area, you would notice that there are four rows of brown spots lining there. Now when you see that on a worm, you then know that you are looking at sod webworms. Now you can start doing what you need to do to take them all away.

From June to September, this is the period when the sod webworms are at their peak. If during this period you see that some parts of your lawn are turning brown and there are worms there, then sod webworms are possibly behind that condition. They stay where the roots and the crown of the grass are so the grass becomes affected and goes brown. The grass will pull up like a rug when you pull it out.
