It is very important to first understand the needs and only then go for selecting lighting fixtures for home. You should have a clear picture in mind about the lights required in different areas of your home, where to put task lights and where to install accent lights?

Task lights are needed to perform specific jobs that need proper focused light like reading. A good example of task lighting is a table lamp that would allow to carry the job comfortably as it can provide sufficient light while working in the table.

Floor lamps can light up small areas as the intensity of light is not high, but they are really good at creating an inviting feel. You can place a floor lamp beside a reading chair and can relax.

Mood lighting is also important for a room that is designated as a TV or movie room. The soft light provided by accent lighting placed behind or close to the television can help to reduce eye-strain by reducing the amount of dramatic light changes without losing the mood of the event.

It is not necessary to only place a single type of lighting fixture in a room. If a room is used for various purposes, you can install a combination of lights . Like a room might be used as a TV room as well as is used for doing home works. So you can put a bright lamp on the desk for completing home works and can go for accent lights on a sofa table.
